Dr. Philip Chen - Principal Doctor
With over 34 years experience as a Medical Practitioner, and over 29 years as a GP, Dr Chen brings with him a vast degree of knowledge , expertise and experience in all facets of General Practice.
Dr Chen gained his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1985, after spending most of his life previously living in New Zealand, where he had his early education. He completed his post graduate training at Westmead Hospital in Sydney. His earlier training included work in emergency, as well as Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery, where he has assisted the respective surgeons in both the private and public sector.
In 1991, Dr Chen opened , with a business partner, what was to become a successful 2 man General Practice in North Richmond. This was sold 23 years later, and over the last 5 years, Dr Chen has been working in a Multi – Dr, Medical Centre in Penrith until the opening of his current practice, Francis St Family Practice in February 2019. His mission is to establish Francis St Family Practice as a more intimate and personable practice, getting back to the old style values of General Practice.
Whilst Dr Chen has expertise in all areas of general practice, his special interests are skin cancers and excisions, paediatrics, minor trauma, suturing and orthopaedics, workers compensation, medicals and family medicine .
Dr Chen has had previous experience as a Cruise Ship Dr in the late 1980’s. He has been the Workers Compensation Dr at Godolphin, Osborne Park Complex , Agnes Banks since it opened in 2010, and was the Hawkesbury Race Club Doctor from 1991-2021 . He also served on The Board of Directors at Hawkesbury Race Club from 2009 -2021, being Chairman from 2020 to 2021.
He is also an Authorised Health Professional for the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board, Dr Chen has also completed an Anti Wrinkle and Cosmetic Injecting Course in 2018 .
Having lived in the Hawkesbury Area now for over 20 years, some may consider him to be a 'local' to the area . Married with 4 children, his 2 younger children attend local primary schools, and Dr Chen and his family enjoy the Hawkesbury community, its semi rural nature and its close knit sense of spirit. He enjoys fine food, bush walks and exercise, rugby and the thoroughbred industry, where he has bred and raced many horses over the years.
Laura- Receptionist/Admin
As one of our two medical receptionists/admin staff, Laura is one of the friendly smiling faces that will greet you as you come in the door or talk to you by telephone . Another vital member of the team, she is known for her 'can do' attitude. Laura will assist you in making appointments or help you with the billing and accounts of your medical visit. As the 'front end' of the team, Laura will no doubt come to get to know all our regular patients and make you feel welcome in your time of need. Laura brings with her 10 years+ of experience in working in medical professional centres, and has a lovely 'mountains' personable manner which she brings to work.
She is married with two young daughters and relaxes by bushwalking, cooking, baking and dabbling in interior design.
Cheryl - Registered Nurse
With over 25 years experience as a registered nurse, Cheryl brings a wealth of knowledge to the practice and is an invaluable member of the team. She has worked at Westmead Hospital in her earlier years for over 20 years, mainly in cardiology, and over the last 6 years has been a general practice nurse for several Hawkesbury Practices before starting here in January 2021.
Her special interests include geriatrics, aged care and early childhood health.
Cheryl has, amongst other duties, taken on the responsibility for immunisations, vaccinations, wound care at the practice and assists in the construction of Enhanced Primary Care(EPC) Care Plans and Health Assessments.
Cheryl and her family have lived in the Hawkesbury area since 2015, and she is married with 2 delightful daughters.
In her downtime, she enjoys scrapbooking, gardening, painting and upscaling furniture. When she isn’t doing that, she is bushwalking with Hubbie and the 2 kelpies!
Anne - Registered Nurse
Together with Cheryl, Anne makes up our nursing team at FSFP. She brings over 43 years of nursing experience to the practice, having worked in the primary health care setting for last 23 years. Anne is also responsible for immunisations, vaccinations, and wound care at the practice, as well as assisting in the completion of Health assessments and EPC Care plans. She has qualifications in venesections, wound care and diabetes assessments, and her special interest is in disaster management.
Anne has lived in the Hawkesbury for over 23 years with her family, with 2 children and 2 beautiful grandchildren. Her leisure hours are filled with quality time with her family and grandchildren, as well as craft and reading.
Min - Admin
As an essential part
of the team, Min operates in the 'back of house' admin team performing duties unseen to the public eye and keeping an eye on how the practice is running day to day. She is responsible for bookkeeping, admin, creativity, aesthetics and landscaping of the Francis St Family Practice. Min has an extensive background as a registered nurse, (in paediatrics), having worked at the Children's Hospital at Camperdown and Westmead in the past. However, these days her focus is more administrative and she may occasionally fill in at the front desk.
Apart from her work at FSFP, Min has worked at a local primary school as a School Learning Support Officer . She is married with two children, has lived in the Hawkesbury Area for over 17 years. Min is well known for her 'green thumb' and enjoys gardening, reading, spending time with her family and children. She loves hanging out with her four dogs, especially her mini dachshunds, Bonnie and Banjo!
Karyn - Receptionist/Admin
Our newest member of the team, Karyn has slipped in seamlessly to our team. She shares the bulk of the admin/reception duties with Laura and is one of the friendly voices our patients will hear when they phone or arrive at the practice. She is more than happy to assist you in any logistical medical needs you may have, at the front desk. Karyn has a diverse background involving experience in health and in the corporate world. She has worked as a registered nurse, as well as being a business analyst! However, over the last few years she has transitioned to medical receptionist work for both GP’s and allied health professionals. She and her husband have recently happily moved to the Hawkesbury, lured by the quieter rural lifestyle of the area. In her spare time, Karyn enjoys gardening, sewing and maximising time with her children and grandchildren.
Fiona - Receptionist/Admin
An important part of the team, Fiona, our “casual”, has been with us since November 2019. Whilst her background has been in real estate, Fiona has adapted well to the health setting environment and is more than capable of filling in when our staff are down in numbers, be it sickness, holidays, or unexpected absences. Fiona has often stepped up at short notice to assist FSFP, whilst juggling her real estate commitments!
Fiona and her family have lived in the Hawkesbury for many many years, and away from work, she enjoys Dragon Boat racing, cycling and having a quiet wine with her friends and family.
